Corpus Access Mode

The corpus access mode indicates what permissions you have when working on a corpus. In other words, this means what kinds of operations you can carry out, and which you cannot.

You can change the corpus access mode at any time when working with a corpus.

Details

When working with a corpus, you may find that LogosLink tells you that the corpus is open in read-only mode and you cannot carry out some operations that would modify it. This is because, by default, LogosLink opens corpora in read-only mode. In this manner, corpora are protected against accidental change. This also protects you from overwriting changes made to the corpus by other users that may be working on it at the same time.

When you need to change the access mode while working with a corpus, use the Access Mode button in the Home ribbon tab. If you attempt to change the access mode from read-only to read-write, and there is another user writing to the corpus, LogosLink will let you know.

There are two access modes:

  • Read-only. This is the default access mode. It means that you can view, query and analyse the corpus as you wish, but you cannot save any changes to it. This is the safest mode to work when you are not making changes to the corpus. Also, it allows for multiple users to work on the same corpus at the same time.
  • Read/write. This means that you can do all of htye above, and also save changes to the corpus. Only one user can have this mode at any given time, so LogosLink makes sure that you cannot change the access mode to read/write if somebody else has it. You will need to wait until they release the corpus back to read-only before you can acquire a read-write access mode.

By default, LogosLink opens corpora in read-only mode. You can change this through the Settings command in the backstage.
