Custom Properties
Custom properties are properties of documents, topics or authors that are not built into LogosLink, but defined by you.
You can use custom properties to record data that you want associated to your documents or authors and is not supported by LogosLink by default.
Details
For some purposes, the properties that LogosLink offers by default may not be sufficient.
For example, you may want to record who translated each document, but there is no Translator property for documents.
Or you may want to record the number of children that each author had, but there is no Number of children property for authors.
Custom properties allow you to define properties in addition to those provided by LogosLink for documents, topics or authors.
You can define as many custom properties as you wish, and of the type that you need.
Once defined, custom properties are saved with your corpus, and you can use them in filters as any other property.
There are three kinds of custom properties:
-
Simple custom properties accept a single value that you can enter freely.
They can be of any type: yes/no, numbers, texts, dates, references to other elements in the corpus such as labels or authors, option lists, etc.
This would be a good choice, for example, if you wanted to record the number of children of each author.
-
Option list custom properties accept a single value that you must select from a list of pre-defined options.
You define the available options when you create the custom property.
This would be a good choice, for example, if you wanted to record the political stance defended by each document, and you had a list of stances that you could list.
-
Collection custom properties accept a variable number of values that you can enter freely.
They are similar to simple custom properties, but you can enter multiple values for each author, topic or document.
This would be a good choice, for example, if you wanted to record the translators of each document.
Since a document may have zero, one or more translators, you need a property that can take multiple values.
Using custom properties
You can add, modify and remove custom properties through the Custom Properties button in the Corpus ribbon tab of the Corpus window.
When there are custom properties defined for documents, topics or authors, they show up as extra fields in the corresponding property pages.
