Create an Independent Context and Add Some Elements

A context can reside in an independent file on a computer.

Follow these steps to create a new independent context:

  1. Open LogosLink Desktop.
  2. If no dataset is open, click on Context in the Home ribbon tab. Alternatively, open the backstage and click on New, Context. A dialog box will be shown.
  3. Type in a name for the context.
  4. Give the context a description, if you wish. You can always edit this later on.
  5. Click OK to create the context. LogosLink Desktop shows a blank Context window for the newly created context. This context is not saved yet, so it only exists in memory and not on a file.
  6. Save the context to a file by clicking the Save button on the Home ribbon tab. A Save Context As dialog box appears.
  7. Select the directory where you want to save the context, and give it a name.
  8. Click OK to save it. LogosLink Desktop saves it.

Once the context has been created, and even before you save it, you can add or remove elements to it. Follow these steps to add a few elements to your context:

  1. Switch to the Insert ribbon tab.
  2. Click the New Theme button to add a new theme. A dialog box will show.
  3. Enter a name for the theme, such as "Immigration".
  4. If an <identifier has not been automatically generated, click the button to obtain one.
  5. Click on Create & Edit to create the theme. LogosLink Desktop will show a property page for the new theme.
  6. Give the theme a description if you wish.
  7. Close the theme property page by clicking on the button on its top right corner.
  8. Make sure that the just added theme is selected on the Elements pane on the left.
  9. Click the New Position button to add a new position to the theme. A dialog box will show.
  10. Check that the Owner theme field shows the theme just added. If it doesn't, select it.
  11. Enter a statement for the position, such as "An open borders policy is good for the economy".
  12. If an <identifier has not been automatically generated, click the button to obtain one.
  13. Click on Create to add the new position.
