Create an Independent Ontology and Add Some Elements
An ontology can reside in an independent file on a computer.
Follow these steps to create a new independent ontology:
- Open LogosLink Desktop.
-
If no dataset is open, click on Ontology in the Home ribbon tab.
Alternatively, open the backstage and click on New, Ontology.
A dialog box will be shown.
- Type in a name for the ontology.
-
Give the ontology a description, if you wish.
You can always edit this later on.
-
Enter the text content of the ontology.
You can leave this blank if you want an ontology that starts with no text.
You can add a text content later.
-
If you have entered a text content, LogosLink Desktop will guess the language as soon as you leave the Content field.
You can also select a language by hand.
-
Click OK to create the ontology.
LogosLink Desktop shows a blank Ontology window for the newly created ontology.
This ontology is not saved yet, so it only exists in memory and not on a file.
-
Save the ontology to a file by clicking the Save button on the Home ribbon tab.
A Save Ontology As dialog box appears.
- Select the directory where you want to save the ontology, and give it a name.
-
Click OK to save it.
LogosLink Desktop saves it.
Once the ontology has been created, and even before you save it, you can add or remove elements to it.
Follow these steps to add a few elements to your ontology:
- Switch to the Insert ribbon tab.

A dialog box will show.
- Enter a name for the category, such as "Person".

LogosLink Desktop will show a property page for the new category.
- Give the category a definition if you wish.
